Feelings Scavenger Hunt
Children can search for photos, items or other things that have them feeling different emotions. This activity can be done at home, on the go, or in the classroom! A great way to support children in learning about their own feelings and opening up some great communication!
Circle of Control Activity
An activity based on Stephen Covey's "Circle of Concern, Circle of Influence". This activity can be used to help reduce stress or worry in children by assisting them in identifying what they can control and cannot control in their world - ie: you can control your thoughts and actions but cannot control others thoughts and actions. This can be completed with drawings and/or words.
7 Day Gratitude Challenge
The purpose of this gratitude challenge is to take notice of the good surrounding us and express our thankfulness. This can be done at any time of the year and will hopefully support a continued attitude of gratitude. Practicing gratitude helps us feel more positive, kinder, compassionate and can improve overall health.
Helping children learn to talk about their thoughts, feelings and experiences can provide a safe opportunity and build a trusting environment. These conversations cards are a fun way to discuss new topics with your child or students.
Glows and Grows For Me Activity
There is always time for reflection. Here is a meaningful activity to open up communication about feelings, experiences and growth mindset. Take some special time together reflecting on personal glows and look ahead to some brave grows.
SMART Goals Activity
This goal setting activity uses the SMART acronym to guide children in creating goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. It's important to make goal setting intentional and meaningful for our children, as it creates greater awareness and accountability.
We All Have Feelings Activity
This activity is about emotional vocabulary and feeling all of our feelings. Have your child explore the FeelLinks Dolls page and discuss each feeling, together. Then, have your child think, share, draw and/or write about a time they felt each of the feelings on the printable activity sheet.
FeelLinks Shape Breathing Exercises
This download has 6 breathing exercises that your child or student can add to their "calming toolkit!" Print all 6 and hang them in a visible place. Practice each breathing technique when your child/student is calm. That way, when emotions are heightened, they will know where to find them and how to use them to find calm when emotions are heightened.
Breath work can be used daily to set a positive tone! It can also be used to calm big emotions. Here are many types of breathing exercises to try with your child/student. From imagination breathing and animal breathing, to prop breathing. Introduce these and your child/student will settle in on their favorites!
This feelings check-in can be used at any time by your child or student. It's a great way to build emotional awareness and learn to ask for support when it's needed. This activity can be printed and placed in a plastic sleeve to be used over and over, or printed as a communication guide in supporting your child or student to label their feelings, explain why they feel that way, and ask for the support they might need.
Love, Love, Love...An Activity to Cultivate Connection and Kindness
Love is the act of caring and kindness for yourself and others. A feeling of strong or constant affection for a person/things - a strong emotional attachment. This activity will help your child/student express love and cultivate feelings of connection and kindness.
Emotion wheels are a useful tool to support children in recognizing and labeling their feelings. Be sure to teach children how to use the wheel.
-Go over the feelings on the wheel that are developmentally appropriate for your child (see ‘dolls’ tab on myfeellinks.com for a fun interactive page about the feeling dolls).
-How to choose the feeling that best shows what they are experiencing, what signs help them in knowing how they are feeling.
-How to ask for help in naming their feelings.
-Teach children how to tell you- “I am feeling _______.
-Place the wheel somewhere visible for your child/students to access it!
